Kojic acid is an ingredient in a few of my fruit acid enzyme peels. It can come from the by product for malting rice (think Sake). In Asia it is predominately used to whiten, lighten and brighten skin tone. While it is beneficial for hyperpigmentation, it also helps assist glycolic acid with the gentle exfoliation of dead, or lackluster skin cells.
